Between Us...

"There was a wall of stone, where I stood high at the top all the way on my tippy toes and you stood at the bottom making me wonder if you were planning on catching my irrepressible fall. Soon through your words and actions, I found myself dancing, endangering myself with every step back and forth, deepening the stone row by row, uncovering the rickety wood beneath it. Shaken but stirred and completely in a whirl of emotions caused by your everyday swooning, I caught splinters here and there to warn myself of the danger yet again, of the resistance in your eyes, but how they were still so hard to deny. And so I jumped up and down again like a little kid breaking down these barriers that you’ve slowly helped chipped away revealing one more sheet standing between us, a solid glass waiting to be broken by the only three little words I needed you to have spoken. And so you breathed a breath of hot air in this cold winter wind, and wrote within there with your fingers the last thing I expected to see: I’m sorry hun, it isn’t you, it’s me.

You see, in all my excitement, I hurriedly became a fool. But don’t worry, I didn’t fall in love with you, although I likely could have.. but that doesn’t make getting over our future moments I fell in love with already any easier to get over. Maybe you didn’t give me a full-on broken heart, but you managed to give me all this hope without having the proof to back it up and now I have to deal with this nasty little bruise. And so my only hope for myself now is that it will go away soon, and very soon.

If only, if only I knew."
